The idea came to Patrick in December 2011. Patrick is a shareholder in Fuori Mondo, a small high-end vineyard in Tuscany that started distributing in China. He and his fellow shareholders realized that the risk of being copied was high.
Patrick started looking for a technological solution that was simple, secure and easy to implement, but couldn’t find anything relevant on the market. In his research, he found out that Inside Secure, a French chipmaker, had just launched Vault IC, a secured chip designed for protection against the counterfeiting of goods.
This technology gave Patrick the idea of creating a platform that could deliver not only the anti-counterfeiting service, but also value-added services derived from the fact that items could be identified. Brands could just plug into the platform.
With Jean-Pierre Pirson (one of his fellow shareholders in Fuori Mondo), Gwennaelle Festraets, Didier Delhez and Arnaud Handzel, Selinko was created in September 2012
Today, more things than people are connected to the Internet and experts predict that there will be 31 billion units worldwide by 2025. This new era, called Internet of Things, offers many opportunities for technological innovation. However, this extreme connectivity also broadens the security need for objects.
Person, payment and object will constitute the virtual circle in every future transaction. People and payment security is already shifting to a more secure digital world. Selinko’s vision is to secure the loop by identifying objects at the same confidence level as payments transfer, opening new perspectives for secured online sales services.
